Sambutan Hari Pekerja 2026: Bateriku Celebrates Workers at Unifi Arena Bukit Jalil

As early as 6:30 a.m., over 50 Bateriku employees from various departments gathered at the Bukit Jelutong headquarters. United by a strong sense of camaraderie, the contingent departed for the venue via a specially arranged bus in collaboration with Maraliner.
Upon arrival at Unifi Arena, the venue was already filled with thousands of participants representing government agencies, private organisations, and statutory bodies. Cheers, chants, and spirited performances from each contingent created an energetic environment, bringing everyone together under a shared purpose: honoring the workforce.
Before the official ceremony began, attendees were entertained by dynamic performances from renowned local artists including M. Nasir, Khai Bahar, Intan Maya, and Atmosfera.
At exactly 9:30 a.m., the event was further elevated by the arrival of national leaders led by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Also in attendance were the Minister of Human Resources, Dato’ Sri Ramanan Ramakrishnan, the Deputy Minister of KESUMA, Chief Secretary to the Government, and other ministers.

MADANI Worker Aspirations and National Direction
The ceremony commenced with an address by the Minister of Human Resources, who emphasised that the theme “Pekerja MADANI Kesuma Bangsa” reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening worker welfare and human capital development. Malaysia has achieved several significant milestones in the labour sector, including a 5.2% economic growth rate and a low unemployment rate maintained at 2.9%.
Labour standards have also improved, with maternity leave extended to 98 days and paternity leave to 7 days. Social protection has expanded to cover millions of gig and informal workers, marking a progressive step toward a more inclusive workforce.

Labour Day 2026 Address by the Prime Minister of Malaysia
The highlight of the event was the keynote address delivered by the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. He stressed that Labour Day is not merely an annual celebration but a symbol of the historical struggle of workers who once faced oppression and injustice. It serves as a reminder that national progress is impossible without their contributions.
He highlighted that in nation-building, there is no divide between leaders and workers. Ministers, farmers, factory workers, and security personnel all play equally vital roles in shaping the country’s future.

Strengthening Social Protection and Support for Working Mothers
The government introduced several progressive measures aimed at supporting women in the workforce. Among them is the Post-Maternity Leave Allowance (EPCB), designed to provide additional support for mothers returning to work in a more flexible manner.
There is also a proposal to provide financial assistance for up to 30 days of additional leave after the 98-day maternity period, helping to ease the burden on working mothers and reduce the likelihood of them leaving the workforce.
SOCSO Protection Expansion for Overseas Workers
For the first time, social security protection will be extended to Malaysians working abroad. Special focus is given to cross-border workers between Malaysia and Singapore, addressing concerns over safety risks and reported fatalities along that route.
Minimum Wage Reform and Private Sector Responsibility
The Prime Minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to improving workers’ living standards. The minimum wage increase to RM1,500 remains a key policy, alongside a strong call for private companies, especially those generating substantial profits, to raise wages responsibly.
Government-linked companies (GLCs) are now benchmarked with a minimum wage of RM3,000, setting a higher standard for fair compensation.
RM710 Million Economic Resilience Package (PACE)
To address global economic challenges, the government introduced the Economic Resilience Package (PACE), built on four key pillars. These include comprehensive social protection, enhanced training through TVET and upskilling initiatives, empowerment of gig workers through a dedicated Gig Act and Commission, and the development of young talent alongside support for SMEs.
Bank Negara Malaysia has also increased funding for SMEs with an additional RM5 billion injection, bringing the total allocation to RM10 billion to stimulate economic growth.
The Prime Minister further issued a clear directive to all ministries to ensure that every announced initiative is implemented swiftly. Action reports must be submitted within two weeks, signalling a more decisive and results-driven governance approach.

Labour Day 2026 Awards
As a mark of recognition, the Prime Minister presented awards to individuals and organisations that demonstrated outstanding excellence in their respective fields.
Recipients included top public service officials, professionals, implementation officers, private sector leaders, and organisations such as Telekom Malaysia and Radio Televisyen Malaysia. Tenaga Nasional Berhad was recognised as the Best Contingent for the event.
