As the economic landscape continues to evolve, cooperatives are constantly seeking sustainable ways to deliver value to their members. In line with this, Koperasi Guru Melayu Melaka (KAGUM) has formed a strategic partnership with Koperasi Bateriku Berhad (KOBAT). This collaboration creates a new income stream for the cooperative through the Bateriku ecosystem.
KAGUM was established in 1926 under its original name, Sharikat Guru-Guru Melayu Melaka, making it one of the oldest cooperatives in Malaysia. Guided by the principle of “Satu Untok Ramai, Ramai Untok Satu”, KAGUM has grown over nearly a century into a stable and trusted institution. Today, it has more than 840 registered members, the majority of whom are retired teachers in Melaka.

Through this KAGUM–KOBAT collaboration, the cooperative is now part of Bateriku’s on-demand automotive ecosystem without the need to manage inventory or build physical infrastructure. Instead, KAGUM functions as a community affiliate partner, enabling its members to participate in automotive service referrals.
Under this model, KAGUM members are able to generate income through a commission-based structure. They can share these services within their personal networks such as friends, family, and the wider community where they can access battery replacement and roadside assistance services via KAGUM. Customers get their problems solved, while KAGUM earns a commission.

The Bateriku ecosystem provides a wide range of on-demand automotive services, including car battery replacement, flat tyre assistance, towing services, locksmith support, and fuel delivery.
This collaboration demonstrates how traditional cooperatives like KAGUM can leverage modern ecosystems to create new value for their members. It is a practical approach that allows cooperatives to benefit from new revenue opportunities without incurring operational or infrastructure costs.
As the world continues to move towards digitalisation, cooperatives that have yet to participate in digital ecosystems risk missing out on emerging opportunities. For partnership inquiries, contact Amirul Azwa at +601120976376.
