Malaysia’s journey towards becoming a Smart Nation by 2040 is accelerating as urbanisation continues to reshape the country’s economic and social landscape. According to Dato’ Tan Kia Loke, Senior Managing Director of Sunway Group and a member of MIGHT’s Board of Directors, approximately 78% of Malaysians lived in urban areas as of 2023, and this figure is expected to reach 85% by 2050.

This rapid urban growth highlights the increasing pressure on city resources, mobility systems, and essential services. In response, Malaysia is advancing smart city initiatives that leverage digital technology, data analytics, and the Internet of Things (IoT) to create more efficient, sustainable, and liveable urban environments.

Bateriku Supports Malaysia’s Smart City Vision Through Connected Roadside Assistance

As part of this national agenda, Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) has established the Smart City Experience & Next Generation Innovation Centre (SCENIC) under the Industry Technology Innovation Centre (ITIC) initiative. SCENIC serves as a repository, experiential hub, and living lab where enterprises can showcase, test, and co-develop technologies that address the evolving needs of smart cities.

As part of the ITIC initiative, MIGHT has established the Smart City Experience & Next Generation Innovation Centre (SCENIC) as a platform to advance local smart city technologies.” - Dr. Mohd Muzzammil Ismail, Vice-President and Head of Sustainable Development Technologies, MIGHT

Bateriku is proud to be among the eleven companies selected to participate in SCENIC, alongside other technology-driven enterprises such as Mobiva and Vectolabs that underwent a rigorous pitching and due diligence process. This recognition reflects Bateriku's capability to deliver scalable, commercially viable, and technically robust solutions that contribute to Malaysia’s smart city development.

Digital integration for smarter mobility

On 7 July 2026, Bateriku had the honour of presenting its digital capabilities during a courtesy visit by Ooli Gunalan, Senior Undersecretary (Management) from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI). During the session, Bateriku shared insights into its API, a digital integration that is already embedded across multiple partner applications from Setel to Touch n' GO, extending beyond Bateriku’s own platform.

The API demonstrates how Bateriku is leveraging connectivity and data-driven integration to make roadside assistance services more accessible and responsive. By enabling seamless integration with partner platforms, we supports the broader smart city objective of creating interconnected services that enhance convenience and operational efficiency for citizens.

Nationwide roadside assistance for smart cities and suburban communities

A smart city is not defined solely by advanced infrastructure or digital platforms; it also depends on reliable support services that can respond quickly to the needs of residents and commuters. In this regard, Bateriku.’s ecosystem is well-positioned to complement Malaysia’s smart mobility ambitions.

With more than 260 Pitstop locations nationwide, Bateriku has built an extensive network that enables roadside assistance coverage across urban centres, smart city developments, and also suburban areas. This nationwide presence ensures that motorists can receive timely assistance for battery-related issues and other roadside emergencies, helping to minimise disruptions and support smoother mobility.

Bateriku’s ecosystem combines digital platforms, partner integrations, and a widespread service network to deliver a more connected roadside assistance experience. This approach aligns with the principles of smart cities, where technology and connectivity are used to improve service delivery and enhance the daily lives of citizens.
