The initiative was witnessed by the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs), Senator Dr Zulkifli Hasan, during the MADANI Membantu: Ziarah Kasih Rahmah (ZIKIR) Bersama Komuniti Behrang programme.

As part of Masjid Biru’s ESG ecosystem, Bateriku contributes through practical, community-focused solutions. During the programme, Bateriku conducted free vehicle battery health checks for mosque congregants and residents in the surrounding Behrang area.
This initiative helps raise awareness on the importance of preventive vehicle maintenance, particularly for communities that rely heavily on private vehicles for daily mobility. Well-maintained vehicles reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns and ensure that daily routines and livelihoods are not disrupted.
Where battery replacement was required, Bateriku offered discounted battery replacement services. Through the use of the promo code JPMHEA40, residents were able to purchase car batteries at RM40 off the standard price.
Masjid Biru’s initiatives reduce operating costs and benefit the community
At the core of Masjid Biru’s ESG programme is a 27kW solar power system installed to reduce the mosque’s electricity costs. The mosque participated in the Rumah Ibadat Hijau programme organised by the Malaysia Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC), which provided technical guidance on the most effective solar system implementation for the building.
Through this programme, the mosque successfully secured RM60,000 in funding from the Tabung Wakaf Masjid Hijau, administered by Yayasan Waqaf Malaysia. With the solar system completed in February 2025, the mosque is projected to achieve up to 60 per cent savings on electricity costs.
Beyond solar energy, Masjid Al-Hidayah also collaborates with Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) through a Program Pemindahan Ilmu to implement a rainwater harvesting system. This system collects rainwater within Bandar Behrang 2020, filters it, and repurposes it for domestic use such as ablution and cleaning.

Masjid Al-Hidayah demonstrates an effective and structured approach to implementing ESG principles in daily operations. As a place of worship, it has become a catalyst for ESG adoption within the local community by integrating strategic private-sector partners to achieve clearly defined objectives.

More importantly, the collaboration highlights that ESG initiatives are not abstract concepts, but can be implemented in ways that generate measurable and immediate benefits for local residents.
Bateriku and the mosque authorities are currently engaging in more detailed discussions to enhance the ESG impact on the local community, particularly in providing employment opportunities that are relevant and aligned with the mosque’s objectives.
The sustainability model developed by the management of Masjid Al-Hidayah serves as a strong example that can be emulated by other houses of worship across Malaysia.
